The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has introduced two new standards: True Black 1000 and ClearMR 21000, designed to raise the bar for OLED display quality with a focus on brightness, color accuracy and motion display. The standards are an important step in the further development of OLED technology, which is becoming increasingly popular for both monitors and televisions.

  • True Black 1000: Defines higher brightness standards for OLED displays.
  • ClearMR 21000: Sets new standards in motion display.
  • Compatibility: Specially developed for modern OLED panels.
  • Improved picture quality: Reduced motion blur and more realistic colors.

True Black 1000: Revolution in OLED brightness

The True Black 1000 standard takes the brightness performance of OLED displays to a new level. OLED technology is known for its excellent black levels, but often with limited brightness compared to LED displays. True Black 1000 addresses this problem: Displays that meet this standard can achieve peak brightness levels of 1,000 nits without compromising the ability to display deep blacks.

This not only improves visibility in bright rooms, but also the level of detail in HDR content. Until now, True Black 600 was considered the maximum value, which required a punctual luminosity of at least 600 cd/m².

In addition to the improved brightness values, the standard guarantees high color accuracy and an even viewing experience, even in changing light conditions. This makes it ideal for applications such as gaming, film production and content creation, where precise colors and contrasts are crucial.

ClearMR 21000: Smooth movements without compromise

The ClearMR 21000 standard is primarily aimed at users who value smooth movements. In contrast to traditional MPRT or GtG measurement methods, ClearMR evaluates the motion display based on the relative sharpness of images in motion. With a rating of 21,000, this standard stands for outstanding performance in which motion blur is virtually eliminated.

Displays with ClearMR 21000 are particularly attractive for gamers and sports fans, as they offer a smooth and razor-sharp image, even during fast movements. The technology is also ideal for applications such as racing simulations, FPS games or action movies, where precise and fast motion reproduction is a must.

A list of ClearMR monitors can be viewed on the official website, but this currently only goes up to a value of 13000. Only the LG 27GX790A is already listed with ClearMR 21000.

Significance for the industry

The new VESA standards mark an important milestone for OLED technology. They make it easier for consumers to select high-quality displays and provide manufacturers with clear guidelines for the development of future devices. As True Black 1000 and ClearMR 21000 are tailored to the needs of modern users, they are likely to quickly establish themselves in the industry and significantly increase the quality of displays.

Conclusion

With True Black 1000 and ClearMR 21000, VESA is launching two important standards that will further improve the performance of OLED displays. True Black 1000 ensures higher brightness values and more precise contrasts, while ClearMR 21000 takes motion display to a new level. Both technologies are an asset for gaming, entertainment and professional applications. The first devices with these certifications are expected to appear soon and are eagerly awaited.
