With the DS225+, Synology launches a new 2-bay NAS solution that is characterized by strong performance, flexible application options and a space-saving design. The DiskStation is aimed at users who need a reliable, locally operated storage solution with cloud functionality for smaller workgroups, branch offices or the home office. Thanks to sophisticated software integration and modern network connections, it is ideally equipped for both private and professional use.

Highlights at a glance:

  • Compact 2-bay NAS with up to 40 TB storage capacity
  • Integrated 2.5GbE port for fast data transfers
  • Compatible with Synology Drive, Active Backup and Surveillance Station
  • Optimized for use with certified Synology hard drives

Powerful and space-saving

The DS225+ combines a powerful hardware base with a minimalist form factor. With support for two drives, the system achieves a maximum raw capacity of up to 40 TB – provided that correspondingly large 20 TB hard disks are used. This makes the device ideal for backing up, centrally managing and distributing data at different locations.

The integrated 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port (2.5GbE) offers a significantly higher transfer rate compared to the conventional 1GbE standard and thus reduces data congestion during file transfers or backup processes. A classic 1GbE port is also available, allowing flexible network configurations – for failover or link aggregation, for example – to be implemented.

Synology attaches particular importance to system stability and recommends certified Synology hard disks for use in the DS225+. These have been extensively tested for over 7,000 hours to ensure compatibility and reliability under real-world conditions.

Software features for modern work environments

Like all Plus models from Synology, the DS225+ also relies on the in-house DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, which impresses with its modular structure and wide range of apps. Three central applications stand out in particular:

Synology Drive allows you to set up a private cloud that works across platforms and supports cross-location synchronization. Smaller teams and branch offices in particular benefit from the ability to synchronize files in real time without having to rely on public cloud services.

Active Backup Suite is aimed at professional users who require comprehensive backup strategies. Whether Windows, Linux or macOS devices, virtual machines or cloud services – the software offers a centralized solution for data backup. Flexible offsite backup options help to protect against data loss.

Surveillance Station allows the integration of IP cameras for video surveillance. The software offers scalable management, supports real-time analysis functions and can be adapted to individual security requirements – ideal for small companies or home offices with extended security requirements.

Conclusion

With the DS225+, Synology launches a versatile yet compact NAS solution that is ideal for smaller environments – whether in the home office, edge computing or corporate branch offices. The combination of powerful hardware, sophisticated software ecosystem and high compatibility makes the device an attractive tool for professional data management.
