With the Mini 5 Pro, DJI is apparently planning the next evolutionary stage of its compact drone series. An entry with the US approval authority FCC not only confirms the existence of the model, but also provides the first concrete indications of technical innovations – above all a significantly more powerful battery.

  • Larger battery with 33.5 Wh for extended flight time
  • 65-watt charger for faster charging cycles
  • FCC entry confirms existence and accessory details
  • Lightweight design likely to be retained

Significant performance boost in battery capacity

Probably the most noticeable difference to the DJI Mini 4 Pro is the new battery option. According to the FCC label, the DJI Mini 5 Pro is to be equipped with a battery that has 33.5 watt hours. By comparison, the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus of the Mini 4 Pro previously offered a maximum of 28.4 Wh – an increase of over 18 percent. This indicates a significant increase in flight time, which should be particularly interesting for professional applications such as aerial photography or inspection flights.

A new charger is also mentioned in the documents. This delivers up to 65 watts of power (20 V at 3.25 A) and could significantly reduce the charging time compared to the previous standard. This would be a welcome upgrade when traveling, especially in combination with a larger battery, which would otherwise take longer to charge.

First indications of features and accessories

The FCC entry also shows which accessories DJI is planning for the Mini 5 Pro. In addition to the aforementioned battery and charger, there will probably be several battery variants – such as a standard model and a “Plus” version with extended runtime. However, details on the camera, sensors or new flight functions have yet to be revealed. Nothing is yet known about backwards compatibility with the Mini 4 Pro accessories either.

As FCC approval is a prerequisite for sale in the USA, a global launch is expected in the near future. Although the release date has not been officially confirmed, DJI is expected to officially unveil the new drone within the next few months.

Conclusion

The DJI Mini 5 Pro promises to build on the strengths of the Mini series – above all with a larger battery and faster charging. Although many details about the camera and flight functions are still missing, the FCC entry clearly shows that DJI is working on a more powerful successor. A concrete release date or price is currently still open.
