Just a few days after its market launch, DJI is releasing a comprehensive update for its Osmo 360. The 360-degree camera, which competes directly with models such as the Insta360 X5, is receiving new firmware functions as well as improvements to the associated app. The aim is to increase the recording quality, make the camera more flexible to use and optimize the user experience – even before the expected GoPro Max 2 is released.

  • SuperNight mode for optimized low-light recordings in 6K or 8K
  • 5K with 50/60 FPS in single-lens mode with 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Endurance Mode to extend battery life in panorama video mode
  • New app features such as color correction presets, selfie mirroring and watermark tool

Improved video quality and low-light performance

The firmware update with the version number 01.01.06.20 primarily brings improvements for night and low-light recordings. With the new SuperNight mode, videos can now be recorded in 6K or 8K at 24, 25 or 30 frames per second – specially optimized for scenes with low light. At the same time, the color representation has been revised to achieve a more natural and consistent image.

There are also new features for action shots in bright daylight: The single-lens video mode now supports recordings in 5K with 50 or 60 FPS in 4:3 format. This makes the Osmo 360 even more interesting, especially for sports and outdoor videographers who value high frame rates and flexibility when cropping.

More endurance and new control options

Another important part of the update is the Endurance Mode, which is designed to extend battery life in panorama video mode. Although DJI has not yet published any technical details, initial tests should show how significant the optimizations actually are. The feature could make a significant difference, especially during longer outdoor sessions or when traveling.

In addition, the Osmo 360 now supports the Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth remote control, which is available separately. This allows you to start and stop recordings wirelessly, record GPS data and adjust camera settings conveniently from a distance – an advantage for athletes, vloggers or drone pilots who use the camera in hard-to-reach positions.

App update with creative tools

Alongside the firmware, DJI has also updated the associated app to version 2.3.1. New features include professional color correction presets that shorten the post-processing workflow. Support for five different aspect ratios also expands the creative possibilities for image design.

Interesting for selfie and vlogging fans: The app can now automatically mirror recordings to provide a more natural image in preview mode. Another practical feature is the new watermark positioning tool, which allows branding or copyright notices to be inserted directly and flexibly into the image. According to DJI, improvements have also been integrated specifically for sports photography, which benefit runners or cyclists, for example.

Conclusion

With the new update, DJI shows that the Osmo 360 has been significantly upgraded shortly after its launch. Improved low-light capabilities, higher frame rates, longer battery life and an extended app make the camera more versatile and attractive for a wide range of applications – from professional projects to action-packed leisure videos.
The firmware update 01.01.06.20 and the app version 2.3.1 are now available to download free of charge. If you already own an Osmo 360, you should definitely install the updates to take full advantage of the extended possibilities.
