A powerful vacuum and mopping robot from China is currently causing quite a stir: According to the manufacturer and initial reports, the Ecovacs Deebot T80S promises impressive cleaning performance – especially when damp mopping. Whether and when it will come to Europe remains to be seen.
Highlights
- Suction power: up to 24,800 Pa, well above many comparable models.
Notebookcheck - Mopping roller instead of simple mops or cloths, with self-cleaning function – reduces carry-over, dirt residues should hardly be spread.
- Robot height: approx. 98 mm; navigation via laser (laser navigation) plus an AI camera.
- Base station: Two versions. One with a fixed water connection, the other with separate tanks for fresh and dirty water. Cleaning with hot water and drying with hot air. The price of the version with a fixed connection is the equivalent of around 562 euros, while the tank version is around 80 euros cheaper.
Mop roller for damp cleaning
As Gizmochina reports, Dreame is launching a new smart household helper on the Chinese market. While many vacuum-mopping robots use simple mops or rotating disks, the T80S relies on a mop roller. The manufacturer already uses this concept for its Deebot X11 OmniCyclone (Review | € 1,199.00 *). Advantage: The roller can not only rotate, but also keep itself clean during operation, which means that no dirt collects that could be spread around the room.
The associated base station supports this with hot water cleaning and hot air drying, so that the roller is clean after mopping and dries more quickly. However, it will be available in two different versions. One with a fixed water connection, which provides more convenience and does not require manual filling or emptying. Alternatively, they are available in a classic design with a fresh and dirty water tank, which allows more flexibility.
Up to 24,800 pascal suction power
With a suction power of up to 24,800 Pa, the T80S is in the top range on paper. Not even current top models such as a Dreame X50 Ultra (Review | € 1,303.96 *) can keep up here. The combination with a special main brush should also help to reduce performance losses due to tangled hair.
Navigation uses laser technology plus an AI camera, which should enable more precise movement planning and obstacle detection. However, at around 98 mm high, the robot is not the flattest on the market – so it could reach its limits under some pieces of furniture. It remains to be seen whether the T80S will appear in Europe in exactly the same form (e.g. with identical specifications and prices).
Conclusion
The Ecovacs T80S could soon be an exciting alternative in the premium vacuum mopping robot segment – if it comes to Europe. In terms of price, the model is likely to be in the upper mid-range. In China, it will be launched at an RRP of just under 660 US dollars. However, an official announcement for Germany or the EU has yet to be made.
