Google has announced that all versions of the G Suite will now be able to access Microsoft Office files. G Suite users who receive a Microsoft Office file in any form via the Google service can now also edit and save it.
The following file types are supported:
- Word: .doc, .docx, .dot
- Excel: .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlt
- Powerpoint: .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .pot
The Google service also automatically converts Office files created with a version older than Office 2017 to the current format.
Users of the Office compatibility app may experience problems when using the new features. Google has already published a instruction to disable the problematic function.
