With the Premium Edition of the Pocket 2, Huawei is launching a new edition of its stylish foldable on the market – with a proven design, slightly updated technology and a significantly lower entry-level price. The device combines modern folding technology with powerful camera features, an extremely bright display and possibly even a new chipset. Huawei is thus clearly positioning itself in the premium segment – but at a price that should make many users sit up and take notice.

  • LTPO AMOLED main display with 120 Hz, 2,200 nits brightness and 6.94 inch diagonal
  • Triple camera with 50 MP main sensor, AI functions and OIS
  • Compact design with 1.15-inch OLED secondary screen and IPX8 water resistance
  • Fast-charging 4,520 mAh battery, wireless up to 40 watts

Proven hardware meets price offensive

The Huawei Pocket 2 Premium Edition adopts the most important features of the Pocket 2 released in 2024, meaning it remains a foldable with a clear focus on design, mobility and camera quality. Visually, the new edition hardly differs from the original. The centerpiece is still a 6.94-inch LTPO AMOLED main display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which impresses with a peak brightness of 2,200 nits and high color fidelity. When folded, a round 1.15-inch OLED display on the back provides information about the time, notifications and more.

The new edition remains pleasingly slim: with a thickness of 7.35 millimeters and a weight of 199 grams, it is one of the most compact foldables in its class. The integrated 4,520 mAh battery offers sufficient endurance for on the go. Fast charging is possible both wired with up to 66 watts and wireless with 40 watts – a rarity for foldable devices in practice. The IPX8 protection against water is also unusually generous in this price range.

Camera setup at flagship level

In terms of photography, Huawei relies on a triple rear camera setup for the Pocket 2 Premium Edition. The main sensor with 50 megapixels (f/1.6, OIS) promises high image quality, especially in low light. The system is complemented by a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2) and an 8 MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture – a setup that also allows for creative image compositions. A 10.7 MP ultra-wide-angle camera is available for selfies, which operates from the display when open.

One interesting detail concerns the processor: Huawei is officially keeping quiet, but rumors point to the use of the new HiSilicon Kirin 9020A. If this is confirmed, the Pocket 2 Premium Edition would not only be a visual upgrade, but also a technical one – especially in terms of efficiency and performance. The operating system is HarmonyOS 4.3, which is very similar to Android, but without Google services.

Conclusion

With the Premium Edition of the Pocket 2, Huawei is positioning a technically strong foldable at a much more attractive price: 659 euros (converted) for the version with 256 GB memory and 719 euros for the 512 GB version – both with 12 GB RAM. This makes the Foldable noticeably cheaper than the original model. If you can live without Google services, you get a well-rounded overall package with high-quality workmanship, a powerful camera and sophisticated display technology. So far, the device is only officially available in China, but it is possible to import it. An international market launch remains to be seen.
