Apple has rolled out a comprehensive update for the iPhone with iOS 26. The new version is now available for all devices from iPhone 11 onwards and for the second-generation iPhone SE. Newer models such as the iPhone 17 (€ 949.00 *) and iPhone 17 Pro (€ 1,299.00 *) are already supplied with the update ex works. iOS 26 not only brings a fresh design to smartphones, but also numerous new functions that should make everyday life easier and more convenient.

A fresh look: Liquid Glass Design

One of the most striking changes is the completely revised look. Apple has opted for a so-called Liquid Glass design, which is characterized by transparent surfaces, glass-like effects and subtly revised app icons. Menus, buttons and pop-ups appear lighter and more modern as a result.

The aim is to give the system a contemporary look without losing the familiar operation. Customization of the user interface is also becoming more important. The lock screen and home screen can now be customized.

In addition to new widgets and icon variants, there are also extended options for displaying notifications. Apple is thus giving users more control over how the iPhone looks and works in everyday life.

Revised standard apps

Apple has revised several core applications with the update. The camera app has been given a clearer structure and should now be more intuitive to use. In the Phone app, important information such as missed calls, favorites and recent calls appear together on one screen. This saves Apple users a few clicks in everyday life.

Intelligent voice and translation functions

A big step forward has also been made in the area of voice assistance. Apple Intelligence gives iOS 26 the ability to translate spoken content in real time. This works not only for phone calls or video calls, but also for videos. Apple is thus making the language barrier somewhat superfluous and strengthening the international use of the iPhone.

For the first time, Apple is bringing its own games app to the iPhone with iOS 26. It serves as a central point of contact for all games – regardless of whether they were purchased in the App Store or are part of the Apple Arcade subscription. In addition to a clearly arranged collection, there are functions for multiplayer sessions so that friends can play together more easily.

Intelligent helpers in everyday life

iOS 26 also receives useful improvements in other areas:

  • The visual search recognizes objects in photos or directly via the camera and can provide additional information about them – similar to Google’s “Circle to Search”.
  • Alternative routes will be offered in Apple Maps in future. Frequently used routes can also be saved as widgets on the home screen.
  • The Wallet app automatically reads order information from emails, even if the purchase was not made via Apple Pay. This makes it easier for users to keep track of their purchases.

Conclusion: An update with a lot of substance

With iOS 26, Apple is setting new trends both visually and functionally. While the fresh Liquid Glass design visually enhances the iPhone, the new apps and clever features bring tangible benefits in everyday life. Whether gaming, navigation or communication – almost every area has been touched. Apple is thus presenting an update that will become a must-download for many iPhone owners.
