LG is expanding its portfolio in the high-end gaming segment with another OLED model: the UltraGear OLED 27GX700A is aimed at gamers who not only value high picture quality, but also extreme speed. With a fourth-generation tandem OLED panel, 280 Hz refresh rate and a further increase in brightness, LG is focusing on a combination of technology and performance that will appeal to ambitious gamers and picture quality enthusiasts alike.
With this model, LG is consistently pursuing its OLED strategy in the gaming monitor sector and improving key aspects such as brightness, energy efficiency and color reproduction.
In a nutshell:
- Tandem OLED panel with four luminous layers for higher brightness and efficiency.
- Up to 280 Hz variable refresh rate for smooth gameplay without tearing.
- 1,500 cd/m² peak brightness (3% APL) for improved HDR display.
- DisplayHDR True Black 500 and ClearMR-13000 for precise contrasts and minimal blurring.
Tandem OLED for more brightness and efficiency
With the 27GX700A, LG is introducing a tandem OLED panel with four instead of the usual three luminous layers for the first time. While conventional OLED panels are based on a structure consisting of two blue and one yellow layer, an additional green and red layer is added here. This innovation enables an increased peak brightness of up to 1,500 cd/m² with a small image section (3% APL) and should also improve the panel’s service life and efficiency.
At the same time, LG promises a 20 percent reduction in power consumption compared to previous OLED generations. In doing so, the company is not only addressing the gaming community’s desire for more luminosity, but also current discussions about the sustainability and energy consumption of high-end displays. The color space coverage of 99.5 percent DCI-P3 is a top value in the OLED monitor sector and guarantees vivid colors and an accurate display in games and multimedia applications.
Gaming features at the highest level
In addition to picture quality, LG continues to place great emphasis on performance with the UltraGear OLED 27GX700A: a refresh rate of up to 280 Hz guarantees smooth gameplay, which is particularly advantageous in competitive titles. Although LG does away with the extremely high 480 Hz of its sister model, the 27GX790A, it offers higher brightness in return, which represents significant added value, especially for HDR content.
Thanks to the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and ClearMR 13000 certification, a particularly precise display of black tones and minimal motion blur is guaranteed. The fast response time of just 0.03 ms is typical of OLEDs and remains one of the key advantages of this technology over LCD alternatives.
It is currently unclear whether LG has made any changes to the connections. The predecessor already offered DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR13.5 as well as two HDMI 2.1 connections – no confirmation is known for the new model. There is also no concrete information on ergonomic features such as height adjustment or pivot function.
Conclusion: OLED gaming monitor with clear strengths
The LG UltraGear OLED 27GX700A may not be a revolution, but it does offer a sophisticated technical refinement that positions it as a serious candidate for high-end gaming setups. Higher brightness, improved energy efficiency and a more than adequate refresh rate make it an exciting option for gamers who appreciate OLED technology not only for its black level, but also for HDR content and fast games.
The monitor is currently only confirmed for the Chinese market, where it will cost the equivalent of around 840 euros. Information on a release in Germany is still pending.
