Following the Slim S version, which UGREEN already offers for the Samsung SmartThings system, the company is now launching a new version, the FineTrack Slim Smart G, which is specifically compatible with Google’s Find Hub – and therefore with all Android smartphones. The manufacturer is positioning the device as a competitor to Apple AirTag-based trackers, but is clearly targeting Android/Google users.
Design & dimensions: Ultra-slim, unobtrusive
One of the most striking features of the FineTrack Slim Smart G is its extremely low thickness: 1.7 millimetres. This height makes it possible to slip the tracker inconspicuously into a wallet, passport or similar without adding too much bulk. The device also has IP68 certification. This means that it is both dustproof and offers protection under water. This helps in the event that the tracker accidentally gets wet or even falls into water.
Technical features
UGREEN claims an impressive five-year service life for the FineTrack Slim Smart G. By comparison, the Slim S version that UGREEN previously offered only had an operating time of around 12 months. One important difference to the Slim S: the battery in the Slim Smart G cannot be recharged or replaced. As soon as the internal battery is exhausted, the tracker must be completely replaced.
This has an impact on sustainability and service life: although it can be used for five years, the device then becomes electronic waste. Thanks to integration into Google’s Find Hub system, the tracker can be used with all Android smartphones. This enables a broad user base without having to rely on proprietary systems such as Apple’s “Find My”.
Conclusion
The UGREEN FineTrack Slim Smart G is an interesting alternative to previous trackers, especially for Android users who are looking for an extremely flat and unobtrusive device. The five-year battery life is a strong argument compared to many other trackers, but this performance comes at the price of compromises – in particular the permanently installed, non-replaceable battery.
In Europe, the FineTrack Slim Smart G is available at a price of 29.99 euros. The device is already listed on Amazon Germany, but a specific start date for delivery has not yet been communicated. Alternatives such as the UGREEN FineTrack Slim (€ 27.99 *) and UGREEN FineTrack Slim S (€ 34.99 *) are already available.
