Nokia G11 und G21

With the Nokia G11 and G21, HMD Global has introduced two new mid-range smartphones that are offered for less than 200 Euros. A long battery life, three years of Android updates and a frame rate of 90 Hz are on the cards.

Nokia G11 and G21 in detail

The two smartphones succeed the G10 and G20, which were released last year. In terms of design, the Nokia G11 and G21 offer some innovations and rely on a case made of polycarbonate, for example.

Instead of positioning the rear cameras in the center of the smartphone’s back as before, the triple-cam setup of both smartphones moves to the upper left edge. The Unisoc T606 with eight cores is used as the SoC. It combines two faster Cortex-A75 cores with six Cortex-A55 cores, which have a maximum clock rate of 1.6 GHz.

A Mali-G57 MP1 GPU with 650 MHz performance is responsible for the graphics performance, so the two smartphones are rather not suitable for gamers. The rather sparse RAM configuration of 3 GB in the case of the Nokia G11 and 4 GB LPDDR4X RAM in the case of the Nokia G21 also speaks for this. The internal storage of 32 GB or 64 GB is also manageable, but both smartphones can be expanded via microSD card.

Strong battery and 90 Hz display

The built-in battery is all the more generous. Nokia’s G11 and G21 both have a capacity of 5,050 mAh, which results in a battery life of up to three days according to HMD Global. Another new feature is the so-called “super battery-saving mode”, which can extend the battery runtime by up to four hours. The user can determine which apps should continue to run during the active energy-saving mode.

Nokia’s smartphones use a 6.52-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels (269 ppi) and a refresh rate of 90 Hz for the display. Last year’s models only had a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Cameras and update promise

The front camera sits in a centrally placed punch hole in the shape of a teardrop and offers a resolution of 8 megapixels. A triple camera setup is installed on the rear, consisting of a 13 megapixel main camera in Nokia’s G11 and a 50 megapixel cam in the G21. In addition, there are two 2-megapixel sensors, which are responsible for depth information and macro shots. However, an ultra-wide-angle camera is not offered.

Nokia’s G11 and G21 are currently still shipped with Android 11, but the update to Android 12 is supposed to be rolled out soon. In addition, manufacturer HMD Global promises monthly Android security updates for a period of three years.

Prices and availability

The Nokia G11 and G21 are available in stores now. The G11 comes in Ice and Charcoal colors and has an MSRP of 159.99 euros. The Nokia G21 comes in the colors Nordic Blue and Dusk and costs 189.99 Euros.
