Shortly before the official launch on September 18, Nothing has unveiled its upcoming flagship in the audio segment. The new Nothing Ear (3) are the first to feature a design that integrates metal parts alongside the typical transparent elements. The charging case also surprises with a previously unknown talk button on the front. With these innovations, the company wants to clearly differentiate its high-end earphones from the more affordable Nothing Ear (a).

  • New housing with transparent cover and metal elements for a more premium look
  • Talk button on the charging case – exact function not yet known
  • Slightly revised design for better wearing comfort
  • Improved microphone technology (“Super Mic”) for clearer voice quality

New premium design with metal elements

Nothings product line is known for transparent housings with an iconic look. With the Ear (3), the manufacturer is now going one step further: parts of the earphones and the charging case are made of metal. This gives the in-ears a more premium look and sets them apart from the previous models. The transparent cover is retained, which means that the typical “nothing design” is not lost.

The new 0.35 millimeter thin metal antenna built into the housing is technically interesting. According to the manufacturer, this should improve both reception and signal quality. At the same time, the gaps have become smaller, which makes for a more pleasant feel. The earphones themselves have been given a slightly optimized shape, which should ensure more comfort in the ear – a detail that is particularly important for long periods of wearing when listening to music or making phone calls.

The question of wireless charging remains exciting: If the underside of the charging case is also made of metal, wireless charging might not be possible. Nothing has not yet made a clear statement on this, which makes the official presentation particularly interesting.

Function still a secret: the Talk button

Another striking detail of the Ear (3) is the newly integrated Talk button on the charging case. What exactly it controls remains unclear at the moment. Industry observers speculate that the button probably enables direct access to a voice assistant. As Nothing is increasingly equipping its products with AI functions and direct ChatGPT integration, it would be plausible for this button to play a central role in voice control.

This function is supported by the so-called “Super Mic”, which promises significantly improved voice transmission. This should make the use of voice assistants, as well as conversations on the move, sound more natural and clearer. If it is confirmed that ChatGPT or another smart assistant is integrated, the Ear (3) would go beyond the pure audio function to become an AI-controlled interface.

Positioning and expectations before the launch

With the Ear (3), Nothing is focusing on a premium package that makes a strong statement in terms of both design and technical capabilities. While the more affordable Ear (a) have already attracted a lot of attention in the entry-level segment at around 69 euros, the new model is establishing itself as a higher-quality alternative with innovative extras.

The combination of metal design, possibly enhanced AI functionality and revised acoustics should make the Ear (3) particularly attractive to users who not only value sound, but also design and smart features. Nothing’s deliberately eye-catching design and unusual functions are in line with the brand strategy to date.

Conclusion

The Nothing Ear (3) promise exciting innovations even before their official launch. Metal elements in the housing, a talk button with a previously unknown function and improved microphones make the in-ears the manufacturer’s most exciting audio product in a long time. The earphones will be officially launched on September 18, 2025; prices and final functions have not yet been confirmed. However, one thing is clear: Nothing remains true to its philosophy of reinterpreting everyday technology with eye-catching, innovative ideas.
