Before the end of 2025, Philips Hue lighting systems should be able to be controlled via Sonos Voice Control. This means that Sonos Voice Control could take over functions outside of its own audio products for the first time – an exciting step towards seamless home networking that appeals not only to music lovers but also to lighting enthusiasts.

First external platform for Sonos Voice Control

Sonos Voice Control, which has been around since 2022 and has so far been used primarily for music, timer and weather control, is getting its first interface to an external smart home system with Philips Hue. This makes Signify’s lighting solution the first brand outside of the Sonos ecosystem to be fully integrated into voice control. In future, users will not only be able to operate their speakers simply by saying “Hey Sonos”, but will also be able to control the lighting in their entire home – a significant step towards controlling the smart home from a single source.

Philips Hue: Scenes, brightness & more

Although the full list of functions is not yet known, there are many indications that Sonos voice control will take over basic Hue commands. These are likely to include switching individual lamps or entire rooms on and off, adjusting the brightness and activating preset light scenes such as “Reading light” or “Relaxation”. Whether color changes, dynamic effects or the integration of more complex routines will also be possible will probably not be clear until the official launch.

Philips Hue: Launch schedule & IFA 2025

The integration will be officially unveiled on September 3, 2025 at IFA in Berlin, one of the largest industry events for consumer electronics. Signify is expected to announce detailed information on the range of functions and implementation there. The rollout of the new options is planned for this year, but without an exact start date. This leaves technology fans and smart home users with a certain amount of suspense as to when the convenient control system will actually make its way into everyday life.

Local execution of voice commands

A key advantage of Sonos Voice Control is the local processing of all voice commands. Instead of sending data to the cloud, the evaluation takes place directly on the device – a plus point in terms of data protection and reaction speed. It can be assumed that Philips Hue control will also follow this principle. This would not only allow users to react more quickly to their lighting, but also benefit from greater privacy.

Conclusion

The planned integration of Philips Hue into Sonos Voice Control opens up new possibilities for simplified, voice-controlled lighting control – conveniently, quickly and with a particular focus on data protection. Even if not all the details are known yet, there are many indications that this combination will be a highlight for smart home fans. There are no price or availability details yet, but IFA 2025 should answer all open questions at the latest. Until then, we can look forward to a seamless symbiosis of sound and light.
