Apple fans will apparently have to wait even longer: According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, the big relaunch of the MacBook Pro, with OLED display and the new M6 chip, has been postponed again. Instead of 2026 as originally planned, the launch is now expected to take place between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027. Here is an overview of the latest speculation.

Highlights

  • OLED display and slimmer design for the M6 model
  • Release period: late 2026 to early 2027
  • M5 models with old housing probably earlier in 2026
  • Low upgrade incentives for users of current versions

The wait is getting longer: the new schedule

Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman has revised the assumed timetable for the eagerly awaited MacBook with M6 CPU in the Power On newsletter. Originally, the new MacBook Pro generation with M6 chip, OLED display and reduced form factor was to be released in early 2026. In his current newsletter dated August 10, 2025, he shifts this timeframe significantly to late 2026 to early 2027.

What innovations are expected from the M6 model?

Rumours had previously circulated about significantly modernized MacBook Pro devices with the following features:

  • OLED display: brighter colors, deeper black levels, better efficiency compared to mini-LED were expected.
  • New design: Slimmer and lighter construction and replacement of the notch with a punch-hole camera, possibly with “Dynamic Island” integration.
  • Transition: M5 models as a bridge

According to Gurman, the MacBook Pro with the M5 chip will be released in early 2026 – but without any major design changes. This upgrade is seen as purely technical and is likely to motivate few users to switch. This development suggests that Apple is deliberately stretching the upgrade cycle: first a moderate update, followed by a real milestone redesign a little later in the product range.

Conclusion

The long-awaited move to an OLED display, a new, slimmer design and the M6 chip is still a long time coming and, according to Bloomberg, is no longer expected in 2026, but rather in late 2026 to early 2027. For Apple fans, however, the wait could be worth it – at least if display quality, mobility and new interaction features such as Dynamic Island are important decision criteria. Prices remain uncertain, but a higher price level is expected due to the anticipated premium features. And until then, it’s worth holding out – or should we bridge the gap with an M5 model?
