With the Color E-Paper EM32DX, Samsung has introduced a groundbreaking 32-inch e-paper display that can show up to 2.5 million colors for the first time – without a permanent power supply. Convenient, energy-efficient and flexible to use in retail, hospitality or office environments – this new standard is raising high expectations.
Highlights
- 32″ E-Ink weekly display with QHD resolution (2,560 × 1,440)
- Displays up to 2.5 million colors thanks to new algorithm
- No power consumption with static image (0.00 W)
- Only 17.9 mm thin, 2.5 kg light (incl. battery, VESA-compatible)
Innovation thanks to E-Ink panel and Color Imaging Algorithm
Samsung is currently the talk of the town. The Korean tech company recently presented its latest foldable smartphones as part of its Unpacked event. The brand new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 (€ 1,189.00 *). But Samsung is also upgrading in the business sector. The company has now unveiled an exciting panel that is to be used as a digital advertising board.
Samsung uses microencapsulated inks in four colors (red, yellow, blue, white), which are arranged when a current is applied – similar to the classic printing process. The image is permanently retained without the need for an additional energy source. A specially developed “Color Imaging Algorithm” calculates the fine color nuances from six primary colors using probability distributions and blue noise sampling. The result: significantly higher color fidelity and up to 40 times better color depth compared to previous color e-paper solutions.
Power-saving and mobile
With an integrated 4,600 mAh battery, the EM32DX achieves around 500 days (!) of use with daily image changes, after a full charge in around 3 hours. With a static display, consumption is 0.00 W according to IEC standards – this means virtually no power consumption. These properties enable flexible use wherever there is no power connection – for example as an alternating daily menu display.
Design & technical features
- Thin, lightweight housing: 17.9 mm thick, only ~2.5 kg – mobile and VESA mountable, also possible in portrait mode.
- QHD panel: 2,560 × 1,440 for razor-sharp content.
- Connectivity: USB-C (2×), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 8 GB internal memory – equipped with Tizen 8.0 and APIs for corporate networks.
- Software ecosystem: Management via Samsung VXT cloud platform – incl. project preview, planning, remote monitoring; additional Samsung E-Paper app for Android (10+) and iOS (15+).
- Sustainable materials: Housing is made from 55% recycled plastic, packaging is completely paper-based.
Practical use & future potential
Already present at ISE 2025 and winner of several awards, the EM32DX impresses with its “paper-like”, soft contours and natural color display – visitors asked: “Is that real paper?”. Currently designed for commercial applications in retail, hospitality and public institutions, Samsung says that versions in other sizes will be produced in the future. In addition, intensive work is being done on improved color sets for the Color Imaging Algorithm.
Conclusion
The Samsung EM32DX combines an ultra-thin e-ink panel, innovative color technology, 0 W power consumption in standby mode and sustainable materials. The price in the business sector is around US$ 1,200 per unit (depending on the quantity and retailer). Larger quantities appear particularly attractive – in the long term, costs are amortized through enormous electricity and maintenance benefits. This display marks a quantum leap in the digital signage industry and will continue to develop its potential as soon as other formats follow.
