SanDisk has introduced a new generation of its WD Blue SSD series: the WD Blue SN5100 NVMe SSD. The drive is aimed at anyone who needs maximum performance for video and image editing, rendering or AI-supported applications. With modern NAND technology, increased bandwidth and generous storage capacities, the SSD promises a significant boost compared to the previous version.

  • Up to 30 % higher performance compared to the previous generation
  • Read speed of up to 7,100 MB/s (1-2 TB models)
  • SanDisk nCache 4.0 for shorter loading times
  • Storage variants with 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB

A plus in performance for professionals and AI users

With the WD Blue SN5100, SanDisk is launching a PCIe Gen 4.0 drive that is particularly interesting for creative professions and tech-savvy users. The new SSD achieves impressive read speeds of up to 7,100 MB/s thanks to the use of SanDisk BiCS8 QLC NAND technology in combination with CBA technology.

This means that not only large media files can be processed faster, but also complex AI workloads can be handled more efficiently.
Compared to the predecessor model, SanDisk has recorded an increase in performance of around 30%, which is reflected in noticeably shorter loading times and faster file transfers. This advantage is particularly important for projects with 4K or 8K material or extensive 3D assets.

Improved technology for seamless workflows

In addition to pure speed, SanDisk relies on optimized memory architecture. With nCache™ 4.0, large amounts of data can be processed faster and moved without bottlenecks. This ensures smooth operation, even when several applications are running in parallel.
The QLC memory cells offer reliable performance despite higher data density – supported by a 5-year warranty that underlines the confidence in the durability of the drives. This combination of speed and reliability makes the SN5100 suitable for both existing systems as an upgrade and for new high-end workstations.

Storage options and availability

The WD Blue SN5100 will be available in four storage variants: 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB and 4 TB. SanDisk thus covers both beginners with smaller storage requirements and power users who need to manage large project folders and extensive libraries.
The SSD will be launched in October and is available directly from the official SanDisk store. There have also been some visual changes: SanDisk is introducing a new packaging design with the SN5100, including a modernized company logo and fresh branding elements.

Conclusion

With the WD Blue SN5100 NVMe SSD, SanDisk is launching a powerful upgrade for creative workflows and AI applications. Higher speed, modern storage technologies and a wide range of capacities make the drive an interesting option for both professional and ambitious users. The SSD is now available in variants from 500 GB to 4 TB and comes with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
