Impressive image quality thanks to newly developed sensor
At the heart of the RX1R III is the new rear-illuminated 61-megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS sensor in 35 mm full format. The rear exposure achieves a higher light yield, which, in combination with the AR (anti-reflection) coating on the sensor surface, ensures extremely clear, high-contrast and detailed images – even in difficult lighting conditions.

The absence of an optical low-pass filter enables maximum sharpness and resolution. This results in razor-sharp images with a high dynamic range, low image noise and precise color reproduction. The sensor works hand in hand with Sony’s BIONZ XR™ image processor, which is already known from the current Alpha cameras and is valued for its high computing power and speed.
The camera delivers JPEGs and RAWs in impressive quality – ideal for photographers who want to get the most out of their shots in post-processing. For macro fans, the integrated lens offers a close focusing distance of 20 cm and a maximum magnification of 0.26x – ideal for detail shots on the move.
Flexibility despite fixed focal length: step crop shooting and creative control
Although the RX1R III works with a fixed 35 mm lens, it offers an intelligent solution for focal length selection with the new Step Crop Shooting function: Users can conveniently switch between 35 mm, 50 mm and 70 mm – directly on the camera or afterwards in RAW processing. This allows the RX1R III to be flexibly adapted to different subjects and image compositions without having to resort to a zoom lens.

The integrated AI processor also ensures particularly reliable focusing. The camera recognizes faces, eyes, bodies and even hidden subjects precisely and tracks them continuously – a clear advantage for street and reportage photographers. The autofocus covers around 78% of the sensor area and uses 693 phase AF points for particularly fast and precise focusing.
For creative freedom, twelve so-called “Creative Looks” are available – preset image styles that can be adjusted in terms of brightness, contrast, saturation and tone curves. With the new looks FL2 (nostalgic colors) and FL3 (strong color tones), individual image moods can be created – directly in the camera, without time-consuming post-processing.
Compact design with professional features
The RX1R III not only impresses with its inner values, but also with its well thought-out body design. Made from a robust magnesium alloy, it combines stability with elegance. The newly developed handle with a rubberized surface ensures a secure grip, even during long periods of use.
An electronic OLED viewfinder with 2.36 million pixels and 0.70x magnification offers a high-resolution preview in real time – an important aid when composing images in difficult lighting conditions. There is also a USB-C port with Power Delivery, which enables both fast charging and operation with external batteries – ideal for long days of photography or traveling.
Sony is also setting standards in terms of sustainability: the camera is manufactured in production facilities that run entirely on renewable energy. The packaging is made from Sony’s Original Blended Material, an environmentally friendly paper material with no plastic content. In addition, the RX1R III supports accessibility with functions such as screen reader and menu magnification for visually impaired users.
