Sony is expanding its smartphone range with the new Xperia 10 VII, which is intended to bridge the gap between the mid-range and premium segments. For a price of 449 euros, the device comes with features that were previously reserved for more expensive models – including a dedicated camera button and a 120 Hz OLED display. Sony wants to make the Xperia 10 VII particularly attractive with an improved dual camera, extended update guarantee and classically practical extras such as a headphone jack.

  • Dedicated camera button like the flagship Xperia 1 VII
  • 120 Hz OLED display in 19.5:9 format with Gorilla Glass Victus 2
  • Dual camera with larger sensors and higher resolution
  • Update supply with up to four major Android versions and six years of security updates

Improved camera with a focus on practicality

One of the biggest innovations compared to its predecessor is the camera button, which has been adopted from Sony’s flagship series. It enables the camera app to be launched quickly, precise focusing and direct triggering – a unique selling point in this price range. It is supported by an improved dual camera: the main lens now has a 50 megapixel sensor (1/1.56 inch), which works with 12 megapixels after pixel binning. This noticeably improves the image quality, especially in low light.

The ultra-wide-angle camera with a focal length of 16 millimeters has also been upgraded: Here, Sony relies on a 13-megapixel sensor (1/3 inch instead of the previous 1/4 inch). Together, this promises a clear leap in quality compared to the predecessor. The front camera remains at 8 megapixels, but is supported by a display flash and improved software. For video recordings, 4K with up to 30 fps is possible, supplemented by optical image stabilization.

Display and design: more speed and robustness

Sony has taken its cue from the expensive Xperia 1 VII when it comes to the display and is now also using a 120 Hz OLED panel in the mid-range. The 6.1-inch display has a resolution of 1,080 × 2,340 pixels and comes in the new 19.5:9 format, which is slightly wider but shorter than the 21:9 format of its predecessor. At the same time, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the panel from scratches and drops.

Despite the modernization, Sony remains true to its line: The smartphone offers a 3.5 mm jack socket, microSD expansion and IP68 certification against dust and water. With a weight of 168 grams and a height of 8.3 millimetres, it also remains relatively handy.

Performance and update supply

Under the hood is the new Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 from Qualcomm, manufactured using the 4 nm process. It uses four Cortex-A78 cores with up to 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores with 1.8 GHz. The Adreno 710 GPU has been clocked up to 940 MHz and therefore offers better performance for graphics applications and games than its predecessor.

Sony delivers the Xperia 10 VII with Android 15 and promises a long-term supply: Up to four major Android versions and six years of security updates should offer users planning security. AI functions such as Google Gemini and Circle to Search, which are directly integrated, are also practical. Overall, Sony is aligning itself more closely with the update standards of other premium manufacturers.

Conclusion

The Xperia 10 VII brings premium features such as a camera button and 120 Hz display to Sony’s mid-range for the first time. For 449 euros, it offers a balanced overall package with an improved camera, strong OLED screen, solid performance and long update supply. It is now available to pre-order in the colors turquoise, elderberry white and charcoal black and will be delivered from September 19. This is a clear signal that Sony is upgrading the mid-range with high-end features.
