Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni robot vacuum on its compact all-in-one station in a modern kitchen

The Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni costs an impressive 1,299 euros and is positioned as the new flagship with BLAST technology and OZMO Roller. With a height of just 9.8 cm, it promises to clean under the flattest furniture, while the AI features and Triple Lift System are designed to ensure intelligent cleaning. As the successor to the already excellent X8 Pro Omni, Ecovacs aims to set new standards with improved suction technology, a revised side brush and enhanced AI functions. But can the most expensive Ecovacs convince in practice? In our Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni test, we put the robot through its paces.

First impression: Nice to look at, impractical in everyday use

Even before the test, the Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni makes a real impression when unpacked. The robot and station both come in the same elegant black textured surface with a brushed look – almost like a coordinated set of design objects for the modern home. The workmanship is perfect on both components: flawless gaps, clean transitions, everything fits perfectly. You notice immediately: this is premium league.

However, there is a downside: the beautiful black surface of the robot and station is extremely susceptible to soiling. Animal hair, fingerprints, dust particles – everything is mercilessly visible. What looks elegant when unpacking quickly becomes a maintenance case in everyday life. If you want to maintain the premium look, you need to use a microfiber cloth regularly – and this applies to both appliances.

However, the robot’s flat design with a height of just 9.8 cm pays off. While other robot hoovers with their LiDAR towers often fail due to low furniture, the X9 Pro Omni slips underneath without any problems. This opens up cleaning areas that other robots cannot reach.

With a diameter of 35.3 cm, the robot has a standard format and fits through all standard door openings. The 4.6 kg feel valuable – robust, but not unwieldy.

Scope of delivery: Disappointingly meagre for the price

For a hefty 1,499 euros, the scope of delivery is soberingly meager. The box contains only the absolute minimum:

  • Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni robot
  • All-in-one station in matt black
  • Power cable for the station
  • Quick Start Guide and detailed operating instructions

That’s it. No accessories, no cleaning solution, no replacement mop roller, no additional dust bag – simply nothing. While other manufacturers equip their robots with spare parts, cleaning agents and various accessories for significantly less money, Ecovacs limits itself to the bare essentials. For a 1,500 euro device, you could have expected a little more.

The scope of delivery of the Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni is soberingly meager: Robot, station, floor mat, power cable and instructions – that’s it. You won’t find any spare parts or cleaning products

At least the detergent container in the station can be filled by the user. You don’t have to rely on expensive manufacturer cartridges, but can use commercially available robot floor cleaners – even if Ecovacs naturally recommends its own solution. This saves money in the long term and is more environmentally friendly than disposable cartridges. A small plus point with an otherwise reduced scope of delivery.

A plus point of the station: The detergent container can be filled by yourself, you don’t have to rely on expensive manufacturer cartridges. According to Ecovacs, the 3-liter dust bag only needs to be changed after up to 90 days

The station: Compact and high-quality, but with compromises

The station of the X9 Pro Omni initially impresses with its compact design. The dimensions of 338 × 500 × 459 mm are pleasantly restrained. While competitor stations often look like small fridges, the Ecovacs station fits into every corner. This is a real plus point, especially in smaller apartments.

Technically, the station also cuts a fine figure. The hot water cleaning of the OZMO Roller works between 40 and 75°C, whereby the temperature is automatically adjusted to the degree of soiling. Hot air drying ensures that no unpleasant odors or mildew develop. Another practical feature is the app integration, which shows how long the station needs for its various maintenance tasks.

However, the compact size comes at a price. With 4 liters of fresh water and 2.2 liters of waste water tank, the capacities are manageable. This is enough for normal households for a while, but for larger homes or frequent mopping you will need to refill more often.

Commissioning: Quick and uncomplicated

Commissioning is pleasantly uncomplicated. After downloading the Ecovacs Home app via the QR code in the Quick Start Guide, the application guides you step by step through the setup process. Under the cover of the robot – not the station – there is another QR code that can be used to add the device.

After a few small adjustments and filling the water tanks, we move on to mapping.

The first mapping run of our 50 m² test apartment went purposefully and without any major detours. After just 8 minutes, a usable map was created that could be edited in the app. The automatic room layout worked correctly for the most part, only minor corrections were necessary.

Navigation: Surprisingly good without LiDAR tower

The navigation works much better than expected. Although the X9 Pro Omni does without the classic LiDAR tower and instead relies on AIVI 3D 3.0 with integrated sensors, it is surprisingly precise. The mapping is compact and not overwhelming – a plus point compared to some competitors that are overloaded with features.

The robot plans its routes intelligently, avoids unnecessary journeys and works systematically room by room. The camera-based object recognition works reliably for the most part, even if it does not quite reach the level of LiDAR-based systems. A closer look reveals many well thought-out details in the navigation logic.

However, one point that is annoying in the longer test is the behavior at door thresholds. The robot occasionally gets confused at our not particularly high threshold. The message “My drive wheels are not in contact with the floor” appears more often than desired, although the situation could actually be mastered without any problems. The sensors seem to be calibrated too sensitively here.

A minor point of criticism is the advertised AI features such as AI Stain Detection 2.0, which seem more like marketing gimmicks. In practice, they bring little tangible added value, but they don’t stand out in a negative way either.

Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni suction power in the test: BLAST technology with mixed results

The advertised BLAST technology with 16,600 Pa suction power sounds impressive on paper. Ecovacs promises 137.6% better dust pick-up on carpets thanks to optimized airflow and a higher airflow of 16.3 liters per second.

In practice, the X9 Pro Omni delivers solid results. Crumbs, dust, pet hair and smaller particles disappear easily into the 220 ml dust container, while the different suction levels offer pleasant flexibility for different floor coverings. It works particularly thoroughly on hard floors and leaves surfaces consistently clean.

Its performance on carpets is also decent, even if more stubborn items such as fresh bread crumbs only disappear completely on the second or third pass. The BLAST technology certainly brings noticeable improvements, but does not quite achieve the advertised revolution.

The ZeroTangle 3.0 anti-tangling system works well. Thanks to the V-shaped bristles with a 45° angle, long hair gets caught in the main brush much less often, even if it does occasionally get caught.

The ZeroTangle 3.0 anti-tangling system: The V-shaped bristles with a 45° angle prevent hair from tangling in the main brush quite effectively

Less pleasing, however, is the side brush, which no longer extends on the X9 Pro. This is a clear step backwards compared to the X8 Pro Omni. Although Ecovacs has compensated with longer bristles, corner cleaning still suffers noticeably, especially in angled rooms.

A step backwards with the side brush: With the X9 Pro, it no longer extends as with the X8 Pro Omni. Ecovacs compensates with longer bristles, but corner cleaning still suffers

Mopping function: OZMO Roller with systematic weaknesses

The OZMO Roller technology is the main feature of the X9 Pro Omni. Instead of classic rotary mops, Ecovacs relies on a rotating roller with a continuous water supply. 16 nozzles constantly supply the roller with fresh water, while dirty water is scraped off. With 220 revolutions per minute and 3,700 Pa contact pressure, the system promises thorough cleaning.

Basically, the X9 Pro Omni wipes neatly and leaves clean results on hard floors. The continuous water supply effectively prevents dirt from smearing, while the high rotation speed loosens even the most stubborn dirt. A practical feature is the infinitely variable adjustment of the water flow rate from 1 to 50 liters, which allows the mopping intensity to be optimally adjusted depending on the degree of soiling. The principle is reminiscent of a washing vacuum cleaner – continuous fresh water supply with simultaneous extraction of dirty water, only in compact robot form.

The OZMO Roller technology in detail: The rotating mopping roller with continuous water supply works according to the vacuum cleaner principle – fresh water is supplied and dirty water is extracted at the same time

The Triple Lift technology proves to be very useful – the side brush, main brush and mopping roller can be lifted separately. On carpets, the roller lifts automatically, while the brushes stay up when liquids are detected. This works really reliably and prevents spilled liquids from smearing.

However, the roller solution also has its limits. Around 1 to 2 cm is consistently left unwiped at the edges – a typical problem with this technology. Although the TruEdge 2.0 technology with extendable roller helps, it cannot completely overcome the physical limitations. This is particularly unfortunate as it is often at the edges where most of the dirt lies. Rotating mops tend to achieve better results here, but the roller scores points with its continuous self-cleaning action.

AI features of the Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni in the test: A lot promised, but little delivered

Ecovacs advertises the Deebot X9 Pro Omni with various AI features such as AI Stain Detection 2.0, YIKO-GPT voice control and the Triple Lift System. Most of them work quite well, but do not reach the advertised level of real innovation, but are more in the area of solid standard technology.

The YIKO-GPT voice control, for example, supports several languages including German and works reliably, but offers no real added value compared to the classic Alexa or Google integration, which is available anyway. Recognition works well, but really intelligent conversations are not possible, which makes you wonder what the point is.

The aforementioned Triple Lift System is much more useful and proves to be very practical. The separate control of brushes and roller works well and adapts sensibly to different situations, even if it is no longer unique.

The same applies to AI Stain Detection 2.0, which works unobtrusively in the background and reliably detects obvious stains. Although the adapted cleaning strategies do not make a dramatic difference to normal intensive cleaning, they do no harm either.

All in all, the AI features are solidly implemented without really impressing or justifying the premium surcharge.

App & operation: Solid standard fare

The Ecovacs Home app offers all the important functions for controlling the X9 Pro Omni. The user interface is clear and intuitive to use for the most part:

  • Detailed map creation with automatic room division
  • Individual schedules per room with different modes
  • Various cleaning modes (vacuuming, mopping, combination)
  • Restricted zones and virtual walls
  • Live tracking during cleaning
  • Comprehensive maintenance instructions and status overview
  • Integration of voice control (Alexa, Google, YIKO)
  • Remote maintenance and software updates

The German translation is mostly good, even if there are still occasional errors. Navigation through the app is mostly logical, more complex settings are sometimes somewhat hidden.

You won’t find any particular highlights or innovative features, but that’s not necessarily a disadvantage. The app is tidy and focuses on the essentials without overloading users with countless options. While other manufacturers such as Roborock or Dreame sometimes overload it with features, Ecovacs sticks to a clear, concise structure. All important functions are available and easily accessible – sometimes less is more.

Volume and battery life: Inconspicuous in operation

The Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni works pleasantly quietly during cleaning in our test. In normal suction mode, it is significantly less annoying than many of its competitors, even if it is quite reminiscent of a conventional vacuum cleaner in strong suction mode. Overall, however, the noise level remains tolerable and makes it suitable for everyday use during working hours or in the evening.

The battery life of theoretically 2.6 hours is easily sufficient in practice for our 50 m² test apartment. A complete clean with vacuuming and mopping takes around 40 minutes – quite decent for the small area, but not outstandingly fast. After that, there are still enough reserves. For larger homes, it automatically returns to the station, recharges and continues cleaning seamlessly. The robot remembers exactly where it left off.

The station is a completely different matter. It is anything but quiet. When the robot docks for automatic emptying, the vacuuming sounds like a miniature tornado. It becomes particularly amusing when, after this deafening process, the relaxed voice output announces “You may hear a slight noise” – and then the comparatively relaxed roll washing begins. That really made us smile. At least the app transparently shows how long the station needs for its various maintenance tasks, so you can adjust accordingly.

Maintenance and follow-up costs: manageable but expensive

The basic maintenance costs are limited. The OZMO Roller is automatically cleaned and dried with hot water after every run. According to Ecovacs, the 3-liter dust bag only needs to be changed after up to 90 days; in practice, this depends heavily on the intensity of use.

Regular tasks are limited to:

  • Refill/empty water tanks (every 2-3 days with daily use)
  • Change dust bag (every 1-3 months)
  • Clean/replace filter (every 3-6 months)
  • Clean side brush every 2 weeks (replace every 3-6 months)
  • Clean sensors and cameras (monthly)

The follow-up costs depend heavily on whether you use original accessories or third-party suppliers. Vacuum cleaner bags from the manufacturer cost around €20 for 6 pieces, replacement mop rollers cost €20-40. Filters and other wearing parts are not exactly cheap either. The premium claim is clearly noticeable here.

However, if you are prepared to switch to third-party accessories, you can make considerable savings. Complete sets with brushes, filters, dust bags and mop rollers are available from as little as 25-30 euros – often with wearing parts for several months. The quality is usually perfectly adequate, even if it does not quite reach the level of the original parts. For price-conscious users, this is a real alternative to the expensive original parts.

Competitor comparison: Too expensive for what is on offer

With an RRP of 1,499 euros, but actual retail prices of between 1,000 and 1,300 euros, the X9 Pro Omni is positioned in the upper premium segment. This makes it much more attractive than originally thought and puts it in direct competition with other flagship models.

Compared to the in-house Ecovacs T80 Omni for €899, the €100-400 surcharge is more justified by the flatter design, the OZMO Roller technology and the revised features. However, the T80 Omni still offers better edge cleaning thanks to its retractable mops and cleans almost as thoroughly in practice.

Strong competitors such as the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra or Dreame X40 Ultra play in the 1,000-1,300 euro league, both of which offer sophisticated LiDAR navigation, established software ecosystems and proven cleaning technology. These models often shine with more precise navigation, greater community support and more sophisticated apps. The new Roborock Qrevo Curv also relies on proven technology instead of experimental AI features.

The comparison with its own X8 Pro Omni, whose extendable side brush was more practical for cleaning corners, is particularly painful. For the current street price of around 1,200 euros, the X9 Pro Omni is certainly competitive, even if it doesn’t lead the class in all areas.

Test result: Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni – Recommendation or not?

The Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni is a technically quite successful robot vacuum with interesting approaches. The flat design with a height of only 9.8 cm is convincing and enables cleaning under low furniture where other robots fail. The OZMO Roller technology delivers decent mopping results on hard floors and benefits from continuous self-cleaning. The compact station fits unobtrusively into any household and offers all the important automatic functions with its sophisticated hot water cleaning and hot air drying.

The surprisingly good navigation without the classic LiDAR tower and the clear app, which stands out pleasantly from overloaded competitor solutions, are also positive features. The workmanship is consistently high quality and the suction power on various floor coverings is just right. As a household helper, the X9 Pro Omni does a solid job.

However, there are also noticeable weaknesses. The beautiful black surface quickly becomes a maintenance case, as every speck of dust and every fingerprint becomes visible. The advertised AI features bring little real added value, and when cleaning edges, around 2 cm remains unwiped – rotating mop systems are superior here. The station is also clearly noticeable with its considerable volume when vacuuming.

For the current price of between 1,000 and 1,300 euros, the X9 Pro Omni is in a competitive range without standing out. Anyone who appreciates the flat design and the roller technology will get a solid robot. Others may find better alternatives for their needs in Roborock, the in-house T80 Omni or established competitors.
