Exactly one year after the GT 5 series, Huawei is launching the new smartwatches: The Huawei Watch GT 6 and Huawei Watch GT6 Pro not only offer significantly better battery life of up to 21 days and even brighter displays, but also come with exciting features for cyclists. Our test.

Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) Review: Elegant and striking design
- High-quality materials
- elegant design
- Two sizes
At first glance, the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) hasn’t changed that much compared to its direct predecessors. However, the displays have grown slightly.
The Watch GT6 comes in both 41 mm and 46 mm sizes, while the Watch GT6 Pro is only available in 46 mm. Both models rely on the familiar and striking octagonal design that already characterized the predecessors last year.
The smaller Watch GT6 in particular looks noticeably more delicate than its predecessor with its offset strap and comes in various colors such as black, white, purple, brown or gold. The 46 mm version, on the other hand, is available in brown, green and black.
For the straps, you can choose between a fluoroelastomer, composite material or composite vegan leather for both variants, while the gold Watch GT6 in 41 mm is also available with a Milanese strap. Only the labeled frame is slightly raised, which gives the smartwatch a more modern look.

The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro, on the other hand, is always 46 mm in size and comes in a choice of silver with a titanium strap, brown with fabric or black with fluoroelastomer. Here too, the frame stands out a little higher and is now colored blue at the top and red at the bottom.
All models feature the familiar rotating crown on the right-hand side as well as a button underneath, which can be freely configured in the menu. Just like the GT 5 (Pro). All models in the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) series are excellently made and of extremely high quality.
The Pro model also uses even higher-quality and more robust materials such as sapphire crystal and a titanium frame. Nevertheless, at 54 grams (without strap), the Watch GT 6 Pro is only three grams heavier than the GT 6 in 46 mm.
Display and operation
- 3,000 nits brightness
- Larger displays (1.32 inch and 1.47 inch)
Although the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) has the same dimensions as its predecessors, the display has become significantly larger. The 41 mm model of the GT 6 now offers a 1.32 inch AMOLED display, while both 46 mm variants have a screen size of 1.47 inches – that’s 5.5 percent more than the GT 5 Pro.
Another advantage: The display of all smartwatches now has an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits (compared to 1,200 nits for the predecessor) and is therefore perfectly readable even in direct sunlight. Contrasts and colors are once again excellent, animations are as smooth as butter and, of course, there is also an always-on display.
Operation via the crown and buttons also works flawlessly and exactly as you would expect from a Huawei Watch. The lower button on the GT 6 Pro is also able to record an ECG – however, the GT 6 once again has to do without this feature.
Features and sensors
- Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and TrueSense
- ECG (GT 6 Pro only)
- Very accurate measurements
Not much has changed in the sensor technology of the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) series either. All smartwatches once again rely on the reliable and incredibly precise TruSense sensor. Pedometer, blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, skin temperature and sleep tracking are all provided. The readings are very accurate across the board and are taken very quickly. There is also an ECG, although this is exclusive to the GT 6 Pro, as well as the option to measure arterial stiffness. To do this, the finger must be placed on the electrode at the bottom right for 30 seconds.
The Huawei Health app then provides you with comprehensive analyses of your health data in just a few seconds.
The considerably more expensive Huawei Watch 5 (our test) offers even more comprehensive measurements with Health Glance and the X-Tap sensor. So if this is important to you, you have to go for the Watch 5. Nevertheless, the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) also impresses with very accurate and reliable values.
I have now been able to try out a number of smartwatches and can say that the measurements of the Huawei Watch models are more accurate than those of all competitors – whether from Apple, Samsung or Garmin.
A new feature of the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) series is the bike computer, which makes the wearable particularly exciting for all those who are often out and about on their bike. The smartwatch calculates the virtual effort based on the weight of the bike, the wind speed, your weight and your speed to deliver even more accurate results.
This is particularly exciting for professional cyclists, but does not necessarily provide any added value in practice. However, the measured values for cycling are now much more accurate than with the Watch GT 5 series.
The watches now also automatically recognize when you are sitting on your bike and start the workout or end it when your bike comes to a stop. Pretty handy if, like me, you cycle to work every day. There is now also a fall detection function that can dial an emergency call if necessary.
Otherwise, everything is included from a technical point of view: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC for contactless payment, which now works (somehow) via Quicko Wallet – even if only on Android. Microphones and loudspeakers are also built in, making it very convenient to make calls via the wearable – but there is no eSIM, not even as an option. However, there is a GPS system that works very quickly and with incredible precision.
Battery life: The Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) increases again
- up to 21 days of battery life (46 mm)
- up to 14 days battery life (41 mm)
- Fast charging function
With a battery life of up to 14 days, the Watch GT 5 model series was already quite long-lasting. However, Huawei has increased the battery capacity of the new model to 540 mAh for the Watch GT 6 in 41 mm and an incredible 867 mAh for both 46 mm models.
The result? A battery life of up to 21 days. You have to let that melt in your mouth. This only applies to light use, but even with typical use, up to 14 days of battery life are easily possible.
The Watch GT 6 can last up to 14 days, which is also an incredible figure considering its size. It doesn’t get any better than that. Especially as the wearables are fully charged again in just 75 minutes.
With daily training, constant pulse and blood oxygen saturation measurements, an active always-on display and the occasional ECG, I achieved a battery life of a whopping 12 days, which is incredibly impressive.
Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) Review: Conclusion
Unlike last year, the Huawei Watch GT 6 (Pro) marks a small step forward in relation to its predecessor. And yet one that could be worthwhile for some users. Three points in particular stand out: Firstly, the (further) significant increase in battery life – two to three weeks of use without charging is a real feat.
Secondly, the larger and more than twice as bright displays, which are a real plus point, especially for outdoor use. And the third point is the new cycling features of the wearables, which represent real added value.
In combination with the coherent features, the high-quality materials and the elegant design, the Huawei Watch GT 6 and Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro are truly outstanding smartwatches at a fair price that are undoubtedly worth the money.
