With the JIMMY R9, the manufacturer is presenting the latest generation of its water treatment systems at IFA 2025 in Berlin. The R9 itself is a modern reverse osmosis device that provides pure drinking water at the touch of a button. This process is made possible by a 7-stage RO water filter that filters 99.9% of all pollutants out of the water. These include PFAS, chlorine, nitrates, fluoride, chromium and other heavy metals. Two BPA-free Tritan carafes as containers also ensure safe and tasteless drinking water. The smart display can be used to regulate different temperature levels and fill quantities. If required, hot water is also available within around three seconds.

Visually, the JIMMY R9 model is a timeless water purification system that fits into almost any kitchen. With a length of around 33 cm and a width of approx. 25 cm, it is comparatively compact. This makes the R9 defacto suitable for narrow kitchen units, offices or for installation on a sideboard. In principle, the chosen location should ideally be where there is no direct sunlight and the machine is protected from oils and smoke.
The JIMMY R9 has two taps for filtered water at the front. One of the two water jugs can be inserted on the left-hand side, where it is then filled automatically. There is also a separate water outlet for other purposes, for example for cups or glasses. Normal or hot water can be dispensed here as required. The dual equipment with portable water jugs is not only practical, but also enables flexible use. Especially in parallel operation, where one jug is used at the dining table, for example, while the other filters water in the Jimmy R9. This allows you to cover a variety of scenarios: from simply drinking to filling up the coffee machine to cooking noodles or pasta. The water jugs are also ideal for the fridge for mixing refreshing ice water with crushed ice in between meals.
As far as the housing is concerned, high-quality plastic is predominantly used, thanks to which the machine appears both robust and easy to clean. The two BPA-free Tritan carafes, each with a capacity of 1 liter, also give the impression of durability and have a practical UV sterilization function when inserted. This prevents the problem that often occurs with classic jugs if they are left standing for a long period of time. This is when bacteria build up and increase in number. The three integrated filters have different lifespans: filters 1 and 3 last for around 1,800 liters or 12 months, filter 2 even lasts for 3,600 liters or 24 months.

The large, smart display, which provides real-time monitoring, proves to be extremely practical. It can be used to read out the respective TDS values before and after filtration. Put simply, the values indicate the water quality: The lower the value, the cleaner the water. “Source TDS” therefore describes the original condition of the raw water, while “Pure TDS” measures the filtered pure water.
It is also used to set the temperature, which can be adjusted in seven stages. The standard output is at room temperature, while six further levels can be selected by touch. The same applies to the fill level, which covers six levels from 60 ml to 500 ml. In addition, information such as the service life of the three filters and other indicators can be viewed. The integrated child safety lock should also be exciting for families, so that no more water is left out after activation – this reduces the risk of scalding with hot water. To switch it on, simply press and hold the button for 60 ml for a few seconds. Pressing it again for several seconds deactivates the childproof lock.
And if the JIMMY R9 is not being used, the display goes into energy-saving mode after around one minute and dims. In terms of general power consumption, the R9 consumes around 24 watts when actively filtering water, while the machine manages with around 2 or 0.5 watts in standby mode. When heating water to around 98 degrees Celsius, the machine again consumes 2,200 watts.
The JIMMY R9 is factory-fitted with three filters, which can be easily replaced from above by simply turning them. This makes the maintenance process comparatively convenient, while the machine itself continuously monitors the filter performance. The 7-stage filter system inside ensures clean water. As a result, the reverse osmosis water purifier achieves filtration down to a size of 0.0001 microns and thus removes almost all pollutants in the water.

The JIMMY R9 cuts a fine figure in everyday use: during the test period of several weeks, we filtered around two liters of water a day without any problems. This is thanks to the filter system, which always guarantees crystal-clear water. In terms of taste, the water is quite neutral, but seems a little “bland” in a direct comparison with tap water. It should be noted that tap water is one of the most frequently and strictly controlled foods in Germany. Domestic tap water is therefore not of poor quality and is safe to drink. However, the R9 provides additional filtering of various particles.
In terms of use, it is extremely easy to prepare both drinking water and hot water for tea or coffee. This is ensured by the easy-to-read smart touch display, which allows you to set the temperature as well as the amount of water. The real-time display of the TDS values is particularly exciting: we originally assumed that the “Source TDS” value would be very low at our location in Germany anyway, but we were convinced otherwise. In the end, the filtered water reached a significantly lower value – the JIMMY R9 therefore performed effective filtering work.
With regard to the energy-saving mode of the JIMMY R9 itself, there is still some potential for optimization from our point of view. For example, although the display is dimmed after a minute of inactivity, it remains continuously illuminated. This seems less necessary to us at night, for example, and naturally contributes to a higher energy balance. Ideally, the display should switch off completely after around an hour of inactivity and be unlocked again with a finger.
The quick heat-up function is also particularly practical for everyday use. The JIMMY R9 delivers hot water in around three seconds – much quicker than conventional kettles. The Tritan carafes are similarly uncomplicated, as they can simply be inserted and are then filled automatically. Meanwhile, a UV lamp in the slide-in compartment constantly kills germs in the water container. This can be recognized by the blue illumination when inserted. The filling capacity is also impressive. We prefer the 1-liter Tritan carafe of the JIMMY R9 to the 615 ml glass carafe of the sparkling water maker for everyday use.
Even in the extreme test, in which dirty raw water is used to test the filter performance, the result is pleasing. Although the raw water tank is clearly discolored and looks unappetizing, the treated water is completely clear and tasteless. This gives drinking water or making tea or coffee a whole new appeal.
JIMMY R9 test: Conclusion
As the test shows, the JIMMY R9 reliably delivers the purest drinking water. Worth mentioning here is the fast water preparation, which works both at room temperature and at up to 98 °C. The JIMMY R9 could therefore easily replace a conventional kettle – and with a much wider range of functions. In addition, it comes with two Tritan carafes, each with a capacity of one liter, and a simple filter change should they run out.
However, the generally very good quality of German tap water limits the purchase of a domestic water filter system. Unlike in many regions of the world where tap water is not suitable for consumption, in Germany it is considered safe to drink. In this respect, the purchase of the JIMMY R9 is far more necessary in foreign markets than in Germany.
Nevertheless, it must be noted that the German tap water in our test was also considerably filtered according to the TDS values. Whether a purchase is worthwhile therefore depends heavily on the planned application, for example whether the water pipes to the house are already getting on in years. Over time, a wide variety of residues can naturally build up there. Apart from use in your own home, the JIMMY R9 is also suitable for caravans and camping in combination with a power station. There is therefore no doubt that the R9’s raison d’être is justified and its technical performance was also impressive in the test.

The JIMMY R9 uses reverse osmosis to produce crystal-clear drinking water from undrinkable water. It can be used in a variety of ways: whether in the home or in conjunction with a mobile power station for traveling with a motorhome.
