YEEDI S14 PLUS test: Robo in a flat design
When you buy a robot vacuum cleaner, the design is an important factor. This is especially true for devices with an all-in-one station, as experience has shown that these are difficult to conceal. The YEEDI S14 PLUS makes a good first impression in this respect as soon as it is unpacked. Its slim, compact and modern-looking housing in the color combination of black and rose gold immediately catches the eye.
A special feature of the Robo is its relatively low height, which is made possible by the absence of the usual LiDAR tower. In this respect, the YEEDI S14 PLUS reminds me of the Roborock Saros 10R (Review | € 1,249.00 *), although the Roborock is significantly flatter at under 8 cm. The flat design naturally pays off in practice. The YEEDI can also reach areas under flat furniture such as sofas and sideboards.
The top of the matt black suction cup features the manufacturer’s logo and the start/pause button – both in elegant rose gold. The technology for navigation as well as object and obstacle detection is located on the front and side. A look at the underside is also quite exciting. This is where the wiping unit is located, which comes in the form of a wiping roller. This can be extended in the same way as the side brush, which should ensure comprehensive cleaning even in the edges and corners.
The main brush including zero tangle technology is also located here. A practical comb combs animal hair or similar out of the brush so that it cannot get tangled in the first place. The Yeedi is solid in terms of material quality and workmanship, but brands such as Roborock, Dreame and others are clearly ahead in this respect. The hard plastic used does not exactly feel high-quality. The materials also smelled a little unpleasant when warming up during the hot air drying process.
YEEDI S14 PLUS test: All-in-one cleaning station
A highlight of the YEEDI S14 PLUS is the included all-in-one cleaning station. Here you not only have a practical parking space for the robot, but also a multifunctional base that ensures largely autonomous cleaning. The station is significantly larger than the Yeedi Cube (Review | Price not available *). If you have limited space at home, you should keep this in mind.
But apart from the form factor, the YEEDI S14 PLUS all-in-one station has the edge in pretty much every respect – from my point of view also visually. The station is designed in the same striking colors as the robot. Inside you will find two separate tanks – one for fresh water and one for dirty water. Both offer a considerable volume of 4 liters. By comparison, the Cube has 1 liter and 1.2 liters respectively.
The station also has a 3-liter dust bag. According to the manufacturer, this should last up to 90 days. The name all-in-one station is no coincidence. The base can not only charge the robot’s battery and vacuum the collected dust. A special highlight of the all-in-one station is the integrated mechanism for cleaning and drying the mop.
The mop roll is first cleaned with hot water at 75°C and then dried with hot air at just under 63°C. This should not only kill bacteria, but also prevent unpleasant odors. Even a Dreame X50 Ultra Complete (Review | € 1,303.96 *) only offers slightly more power with 80°C hot water. However, the Dreame also offers UV exposure to additionally kill bacteria.
YEEDI S14 PLUS test: Setup and commissioning
With the YEEDI S14 PLUS, you benefit from quick and uncomplicated commissioning. As soon as you have taken the robot out of the packaging, it only takes a few minutes until the robot is ready for use. You can use the enclosed quick-start guide for this. Once you have found a suitable place for the station, you can set up the smart household helper using the YEEDI app. This will guide you through the setup step by step.
At the end, the S14 PLUS is in your network. This is followed by the robot’s maiden voyage. The device creates an initial map of your four walls. You can track the results in real time in the app. Given the lack of a LiDAR tower, I wasn’t really expecting much. But the result was okay. You can choose between a 2D or 3D view of your home.
You can then view the final result in the app. If this deviates from reality, you can make further adjustments in the map. Now fill the fresh water tank with water and the YEEDI S14 PLUS can get started. You can start the first cleaning tour either via the app or by pressing a button on the robot itself.
YEEDI S14 PLUS test: Navigation and obstacle detection
As already mentioned, the YEEDI S14 PLUS does not have a LiDAR tower. Instead, the robot vacuum relies on a combination of DToF sensor and the in-house AIVI 3D 3.0 camera technology. In practice, the whole thing works quite well. The technology is quite detailed when it comes to navigation. However, other flagships with classic LiDAR technology are ahead in terms of map detail, overview and speed.
The YEEDI first scans the edge of the room and then scans the interior in U-shaped lines. It easily overcomes thresholds up to a height of 20 mm. The YEEDI also makes a solid impression when it comes to obstacle detection. However, smaller obstacles such as cables or small toys are often overlooked. If you attach great importance to reliable obstacle detection, the Narwal Freo Z Ultra (Review | € 749.00 *) is definitely worth a look.
The TrueEdge sensor is a real highlight. This works together with the extendable side brush and cleaning roller. As soon as the sensor detects an edge, the mop roller and side roller extend. This ensures virtually edge-free cleaning. As befits a modern robot, the images from the 3D camera are analyzed using artificial intelligence. This means YEEDI can not only distinguish between objects. It also recognizes dirt on the floor and vacuums it up as a result.
YEEDI S14 PLUS test: Yeedi app
At first glance, the YEEDI app impresses with a great overview. Even newcomers to the field of robot vacuums should quickly find their way around. Although the number of setting options may seem a little overwhelming at first glance, once you have familiarized yourself with the user interface, the app opens up a wide range of options to plan the cleaning exactly as you want it.
The app not only allows you to start and stop the robot remotely. You can also make many different settings. For example, the suction power. Here you can choose between four different power levels. To increase the mopping performance, you can also increase the water flow rate. Not only the Robo, but also the station can be adjusted in some parameters, such as the drying time of the hot air drying.
You can also set a cleaning schedule and determine the number of cleaning cycles. The YEEDI also scores points with its compatibility with common voice assistants. You can also give the robot voice commands via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri. One small point of criticism that we would like to mention concerns the stability of the app. In some test runs, there were minor delays or incorrect displays – a situation that YEEDI will certainly rectify in future updates.
YEEDI S14 PLUS test: cleaning performance
Now we come to the heart of the matter: the cleaning performance. And here, too, the YEEDI S14 PLUS leaves a positive impression. On the one hand, this is thanks to its powerful 18,000 Pascal suction power. This puts it easily in the league of current flagships. Dust particles or other dirt such as oat flakes or animal hair don’t stand a chance here and are largely sucked up. The anti-tangle design of the main brush pays off when it comes to hair.
The combination of V-shaped roller brush and side sweeping brush is designed to prevent hair from getting tangled or knotted. This is a great advantage, especially for households with pets, as the robot always remains ready for use even after long periods of use. In practice, the system worked quite well. However, it remains to be seen how well it works over longer periods of use.
The YEEDI also scored points for cleaning corners. The extendable side brush pays off here. The high suction power is particularly noticeable when used on carpets. The Robo also removes deep-seated dirt from carpeting. The mopping mode also works well in practice. As already mentioned, YEEDI uses a mop roller.
We are familiar with similar systems from the Eufy S1 (Review | € 1,099.00 *), the Eufy S1 Pro (Review | € 1,088.00 *) or the SwitchBot S10 (Review | € 499.99 *). But the YEEDI offers a trick that the competition doesn’t. It can extend its Ozmo roll mop sideways. This means it can also mop around the edges of areas such as skirting boards or along furniture.
Thanks to a high contact pressure and 200 revolutions per minute, the Robo then mops quite well. For stubborn stains, however, you will have to do it yourself. The mop roller of an Eufy S1 Pro works much better here. Not to mention the current high-end models from Dreame and Roborock, which rely on two mopping pads. To prevent the carpet from getting wet when mopping, the YEEDI automatically lifts the roller when moving over the carpet.
Conclusion
The YEEDI S14 Plus is an exciting newcomer to the robot vacuum cleaner market and scores particularly well with features such as the extendable and rotatable Ozmo roll mop roller and a comprehensive all-in-one station. The powerful suction power of 18,000 Pascal ensures impressive cleaning performance, even on carpets. Pet hair is also no problem thanks to the anti-tangle technology. The extendable side brush and TrueEdge sensor enable effective cleaning of edges and corners.
A big plus is the all-in-one station, which not only extracts dust, but also offers hot water cleaning and hot air drying of the mop roll. This ensures hygienic cleaning. The app control is intuitive, offers numerous setting options and also enables voice control. However, there are still minor stability issues in the app, which Yeedi should improve with future updates.
The main disadvantage is the material quality of the S14 PLUS, which cannot quite keep up with the premium models from Roborock or Dreame. Obstacle detection is also solid, but not on a par with the best competitor products. Small objects in particular, such as cables or toys, are occasionally overlooked. In addition, a LiDAR tower would have been desirable for even more precise navigation. The wiping performance cannot keep up with the flagships either. The S14 PLUS leaves a solid to good overall impression.
