Package with Yeedi S16 Plus vacuum and mopping robot

The Yeedi S16 Plus wants to prove that it can also play in the 1,000-euro league. Even before it officially arrives in Germany, we gave it a run for its money. After around 50 rides, it’s clear that the new BLAST Airflow technology with 16,600 Pa is more than just numbers on paper, the revised OZMO roller system packs a punch and ZeroTangle 3.0 and TrueEdge 2.0 have also had to prove themselves. We even took a closer look at the compact OMNI station, which advertises “up to 150 days of silence”.

Unpacking: Simple, but well thought out

As soon as you unpack it, you can see that Yeedi does without show effects. Instead of shiny plastic and polystyrene, there is plain cardboard, and the robot and station are also packed in a fleece bag. This looks unspectacular, but is practical – you can take the parts straight out of the box without any fuss. Incidentally, the packaging is also much more sustainable than what we are often used to.

Yeedi also remains consistent with the scope of delivery. Instead of a lavish accessory package, you get the bare essentials:

  • Yeedi S16 Plus vacuum robot in a black and gold housing
  • OMNI All-in-One station
  • Power cable
  • Operating instructions in German

Scope of delivery of the Yeedi S16 Plus with station, robot and instructionsThere’s nothing more: no additional brush set, no cleaning agent, no spare parts as with some competitors. For a model in this price range, this initially seems meagre. However, it is practical that you don’t need any special cartridges, but can simply use normal cleaning agents for robot vacuum cleaners – this even saves money in the long run.

When unpacking the robot, it immediately looks high quality. The black and gold design looks chic without being ostentatious and the workmanship is also good. The OMNI station surprised us: despite the technology inside, it remains relatively compact and looks neat. You don’t get the feeling that there’s half a cupboard in the living room – a problem we’ve experienced with some competitor models.

Setup in the test: The Yeedi S16 Plus is uncomplicated with a few quirks

The installation of the Yeedi S16 Plus is pleasantly uncomplicated. First, the station is set up, then the two water tanks are removed, filled and replaced. Then the robot itself is placed on the charging station. Everything seems logical and is done in just a few minutes. The OMNI station is surprisingly compact, but needs around 30 centimeters of space to the left and right so that the robot can perform its turning manoeuvres cleanly.

The setup via the Yeedi app works step by step, even if the user interface seems a little cluttered at first. First scan the QR code on the quick start guide, download and install the app.

Instructions with QR code for installing the Yeedi app
The Yeedi app can be quickly installed and set up using the QR code

Scan the QR code on the robot, connect to Wi-Fi (important: only 2.4 GHz is supported), create an account – this is also familiar from other manufacturers. After a small firmware update, the system is ready to go in around 15 minutes.

The first mapping run through our 50-square-meter test apartment took barely more than five minutes. That’s significantly faster than some premium models, which take noticeably longer to do the same job. The created map works reliably, rooms are clearly recognized, even if initially with rather unimaginative names such as “Room 1” or “Room 2”. Fortunately, the names can be easily changed in the app. This can be easily adjusted in the app, and after a few trips, the Yeedi S16 Plus has internalized the apartment in such a way that it navigates to all areas without any problems.

BLAST Airflow Technology: efficiency instead of brute force

The new BLAST Airflow Suction Technology is the central feature of the robot and has shown in the test with the Yeedi S16 Plus that a clever airflow is often more important than the highest possible Pa figure. Instead of pushing raw power even higher, Yeedi relies on larger fan blades and an optimized airflow that transports dirt into the dust container in a more targeted manner.

Although the S16 Plus officially achieves “only” 16,600 Pa and is therefore lower than the S14 Plus, it is more thorough in practice. This is also due to the new 100-watt high-torque motor, which works with a higher torque and converts energy more efficiently. At the same time, it runs noticeably quieter, making it more suitable for everyday use.

In the test, it was particularly noticeable how well it coped with dust, flour or small pieces of paper on hard floors. The four power levels are clearly differentiated: “Quiet” for a quick pass, “Standard” as a solid basis, “Turbo” for more power and “Max” if you really want everything to disappear completely – but then with a noticeable background noise.

OZMO Roller: The wiping highlight of the S16 Plus

The test with the Yeedi S16 Plus quickly showed that the fourth-generation OZMO roller system is more than just a nice extra. While many robots work with simple pads, Yeedi relies on an active roller that scrubs the floor with constant pressure without leaving streaks.

One particularly interesting feature is the way the roller cleans itself as it moves. Fresh water is constantly fed in via fine nozzles, preventing a layer of dirt from building up. So there is no need to worry about the robot carrying dirt from one room to the next. In everyday life, this principle ensures results that come closer to manual mopping than with conventional models.

The cleaning roller sits firmly in the housing and is clearly visible from the side

The system also masters more stubborn tasks. Dried-on stains or sticky juice residues are reliably removed because the AI recognition recognizes such areas and targets them several times. This takes a little extra time, but cleaning is visibly more thorough afterwards.

To prevent carpets from being affected, the robot automatically lifts the roller as soon as a carpet is detected. At the same time, the Triple Lift system is activated, which also adjusts the main and side brushes. In practice, this works surprisingly well: carpets remain dry, while the robot continues to mop hard floors without interruption. Compared to older Yeedi models, which still showed weaknesses here, this is a significant improvement.

ZeroTangle 3.0: Less hair, less effort

If you have pets or long hair yourself, you know the problem: after just a few trips, strands get wrapped around the brush and block the robot. This is exactly where ZeroTangle 3.0 comes in. The Yeedi S16 Plus test showed that the new brush shape noticeably counteracts these everyday worries. The main brush is arranged in a V-shape and prevents hair from getting stuck so easily. The side brushes also grip long hair without tangling it immediately.

The revised air flow is also exciting. Instead of the hair first collecting in the brush area, it is transported into the dust container in a much more targeted manner. In everyday life, this means significantly less stop-and-go cleaning. Especially in households with a dog or cat, you will notice the difference after just a few days.

Although the system is not completely flawless, some particularly long hairs still get caught. Compared to older models, however, brush maintenance is noticeably reduced, which makes the S16 Plus much more pleasant to use in everyday life.

TrueEdge 2.0: Clean corners

The TrueEdge 2.0 system is one of the most exciting innovations on the S16 Plus. The laterally extendable OZMO roller really does get much closer to the wall than conventional systems and noticeably reduces the typical dirty edges. However, it is not completely flush – a few millimeters almost always remain in practice.

The roller scrubs the floor with constant pressure

In everyday life, you can see the difference, especially in places that are usually neglected: Skirting boards, table legs, narrow transitions. Normally, a thin strip of dust remains there – with the S16 Plus, this is much less noticeable. The combination of side brush and main roller seems more sophisticated than with older Yeedi models: The brush actually sweeps the dirt out of the corner instead of just pushing it around, and the roller then picks it up reliably.

The roller also cleans evenly along furniture edges – albeit with minimal clearance

The solution is not quite perfect. In very angled floor plans, for example behind chair legs or in narrow corners of rooms, small pieces of dirt still remain. There you notice that the side brush doesn’t get in deep enough. On open surfaces or in typical living room scenarios, however, the system delivers visibly more thorough edge cleaning, which requires less reworking compared to many competitor models.

Navigation of the Yeedi S16 Plus: Flat and clever on the move in the test

Because the Yeedi S16 Plus does not have an attached LiDAR tower, it remains pleasantly flat and can therefore get under sofas, beds or chests of drawers, where other robots often get stuck. Instead of height, it relies on a dToF LiDAR system that is integrated directly into the housing. Together with the AIVI 3D camera technology, it recognizes the room very precisely and plans its paths in a structured manner.

Thanks to its flat design with integrated AIVI 3D camera, the robot also fits under low furniture

This is how the Yeedi S16 Plus works: the robot first scans the edges and then draws its lines in clear patterns. It moves cleanly around chair legs, shoes or table legs and does not get confused by larger obstacles. It can sometimes react less attentively to smaller objects such as cables or toys lying around, which is typical for its class.

It has no problem negotiating thresholds of around two centimetres, but anything higher remains a limit. Several maps can be saved in the app, rooms can be demarcated and exclusion zones can be set up – handy if you have several floors or certain areas that you want the robot to avoid.

The bottom line is that the S16 Plus navigates very reliably: flat enough to get anywhere, precise enough to systematically clean the room and flexible enough to cover different living situations.

App control: Many options, but not perfect

The Yeedi app comes with a whole host of functions, but seems a little confusing at first. Some translations into German are not really well done, so you sometimes have to look twice to understand what is meant. After a short period of familiarization, however, you will find your way around and can quickly adjust the most important settings.

It is practical that the suction power, mopping intensity and water volume can be controlled individually. There is also the option of double cleaning or targeted room selection. The map display works reliably, rooms can be individually divided and locked – making everyday control much more flexible.

Extras such as voice control via Alexa or Google Assistant, live tracking and remote control are also on board. Overall, the app offers a lot of control and flexibility – you just have to work your way through the somewhat unwieldy interface first.

OMNI station: compact but loud

The test quickly shows that the OMNI station is the real highlight of the Yeedi S16 Plus. It takes care of almost all maintenance tasks and relieves you of a lot of work in everyday life. The mops are washed out with hot water and then dried with warm air, the dust container is emptied automatically and even the fresh water tank fills itself. The station even doses the detergent itself. Despite this wealth of functions, it remains comparatively compact and therefore appears much more manageable than some large stations from other manufacturers.

The mops are cleaned thoroughly and hygienically, although the S16 Plus returned to the station very often in our test. Although this ensures consistently clean mops, it makes the entire cleaning process noticeably longer.

One disadvantage is the noise level. As soon as the station is working, it is noticeably louder than the robot itself. Anyone who is sensitive to noise or wants to run the cleaning in the evening will quickly find this annoying.

There is also a limitation with the dirty water tank. With a capacity of only 2.2 liters, it has to be emptied much more frequently than models with a larger tank. The maintenance-free operation for 150 days mentioned in the advertising therefore seems rather theoretical and could not be confirmed in the test.

Everyday suitability of the Yeedi S16 in the test: strong performance with compromises

After around 50 trips, a clear picture emerges: the Yeedi S16 Plus vacuums reliably on hard floors, while mopping leaves surfaces clean and without any annoying streaks. In the carpet test with confetti, it approached the soiled area several times and picked up most of it.

The confetti test on carpet shows the challenge for the vacuum cleaner

However, some particles were left behind – this is where it reaches its limits and does not quite match the deep cleaning of the high-end competition.

The majority is reliably picked up, a few residues are left behind

The fourth-generation OZMO system delivers very thorough results on hard floors, and ZeroTangle 3.0 also pays off: Hair winds up in the brush much less often, which reduces maintenance. The navigation seems solid overall, even if smaller obstacles such as cables or flat objects are occasionally overlooked.

Deductions can be made for the station in particular. It is extremely loud during operation and is therefore much more annoying than many competitor models. In addition, the robot’s frequent self-cleaning cycles are noticeable, which repeatedly interrupt the process and extend the overall cleaning time. The dirty water tank is also quite small, so it has to be emptied more often.

All in all, however, the Yeedi S16 Plus is a reliable helper in everyday life. The suction power is strong, the wiping results are impressive and the automation noticeably reduces the workload. The weaknesses are clearly in the volume and station, but overall the positive impressions outweigh the negative ones – the robot is more fun than it is a problem.

Competitor comparison: good performance, fair price

It is priced just below the absolute top models, but without having real bargain quality. It scores against the Roborock Qrevo CurvX with its superior OZMO mopping system, but has disadvantages in terms of software maturity and workmanship.

Compared to the in-house Yeedi S14 Plus, the S16 Plus offers interesting improvements: BLAST technology provides more efficient cleaning despite less raw suction power, ZeroTangle 3.0 is an improvement over the 2.0 version, and the 23% larger battery helps with larger homes. However, the smaller dirty water tank is a step backwards.

It can certainly keep up with premium models such as the Dreame X50 Ultra in terms of hardware, but lags behind in terms of software maturity and app quality. The big advantage of the S16 Plus is the price-performance ratio. For 1,000 euros, you get modern technology that would otherwise cost significantly more.

Conclusion: Solid technology with typical Yeedi characteristics

The Yeedi S16 Plus shows that the manufacturer does not have to hide behind the big names in terms of technology. The BLAST technology ensures decent suction results, ZeroTangle 3.0 reliably keeps hair away from the brushes and the fourth-generation OZMO roller system is currently one of the most convincing mopping solutions available. The appliance really comes into its own when tackling stubborn dirt on tiles or in households where a lot of mopping is required.

Less successful are the well-known peculiarities. The OMNI station is extremely loud and can hardly be ignored in everyday life. In addition, there are frequent self-cleaning cycles that prolong the process, as well as a rather small water tank that requires more maintenance. The app also seems unfinished in some places and the 150 days of maintenance-free operation are more of an advertising promise than reality.

In everyday use, however, the robot works reliably. In the confetti test, it moved to the area several times and removed most of it, although a few remaining pieces were left behind. For normal households, this is complaining on a high level, because overall the S16 Plus delivers a thorough and even clean that allows you to relax and take a deep breath.

If you are prepared to pay the not exactly low price and can live with the station’s peculiarities, you get a model with strong mopping performance, solid suction power and an overall well-balanced appearance. The S16 Plus does not come close to the elegance of the absolute top appliances, but offers enough arguments to be considered a real alternative.
