Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition review: The Cobra gets colorful
The Cobra is one of the most popular mouse series from Razer. No wonder, as the symmetrical design, which can be used on both sides, enjoys enormous popularity. The series was recently expanded to include the Cobra HyperSpeed (our test), which attracted attention with its powerful functions but too high price.
The Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition is a wireless gaming mouse that combines a classic shape with a playful design. It is 119.6 mm long, 62.5 mm wide, 38.1 mm high and weighs a pleasant 58 grams.
The Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition comes in an eye-catching yellow color, characterized by the Kanto starters whose stylized faces are decoratively printed on the main keys. The workmanship appears high-quality and robust, but the playful design is primarily aimed at fans of the pocket monsters or a younger target group.
There are two additional buttons on the left, making a total of six programmable buttons. The 3rd generation optical mouse switches are also extremely durable with 90 million clicks.
Features of the Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition
You shouldn’t expect the Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition to be high-end. Nevertheless, the manufacturer has equipped the mouse with features that should appeal to more than just casual gamers. Technically, the Pokémon Edition is based on the regular Razer Cobra and therefore comes with a solid package of features. Weighing just 58 grams, the mouse is a particularly lightweight model – ideal for fast movements and long gaming sessions.
At its heart are the Gen 3 optical switches, which impress with a lifespan of around 90 million clicks and a response time of just 0.2 milliseconds. In addition, there is a precise 8,500 DPI sensor, which ensures exact scanning, and a polling rate of 1,000 Hz.
The mouse is connected via USB-A, an adapter to USB-C is not included. The whole thing is rounded off with a flexible SpeedFlex cable and PTFE gliding feet for smooth handling. Visual accents are provided by customizable chroma RGB lighting with underflow effect and logo illumination, which can be individualized via the software.
Software connection
Setting up the mouse is straightforward: Plug it in, install the software and get started. All functions can be customized via Razer Synapse. This includes lighting effects, sensor sensitivity, macros and button assignments.
A practical feature is that profiles can be saved directly to the mouse’s onboard memory – this means that personal settings are retained even if the mouse is used on a different PC.
Synapse therefore offers great flexibility for users who like to personalize their setup. The integration into Razer’s ecosystem works seamlessly, and other devices such as keyboards or headsets can also be tuned using the same software. Another positive aspect is that the mouse can also be used outside of classic PC operation: it also works on a console, for example, although the full customizability is not available here.
Sensor and practical test
In everyday use, the Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition shows that it is more than just a pretty collector’s item. The sensor works precisely and reliably – whether for fast aiming in shooters, precise movements in MOBAs or normal everyday office use.
The extremely short response time of the optical switches ensures that inputs are implemented immediately, without the risk of double-clicks or delays. The low weight is particularly pleasant: at 58 grams, the mouse can be moved effortlessly, which prevents fatigue, especially during longer gaming sessions.
The flexible cable also contributes to the fact that hardly any resistance can be felt. Ergonomically, the mouse is ideal for small to medium-sized hands – however, those with larger hands may prefer a slightly more voluminous shape in the long run. Overall, you get a good gaming mouse with sufficient performance, no more, but also no less.
Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition review: Conclusion
The Razer Cobra Pokémon Edition combines the technical quality of the standard version with an eye-catching and playful design. It is light, precise and reliable, while the software offers a wide range of customization options.
However, Razer certainly pays well for this when you consider that you can buy the normal Cobra with identical features for around 30 euros. The Pokémon Edition is therefore primarily aimed at fans of the pocket monsters who are looking for a unique collector’s item without having to compromise on convincing performance.
