Now, almost three years later, the Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro finally has a successor. And it has once again improved significantly in the most important disciplines. Has Razer created the perfect mouse for professionals? We find out in the test.

Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro review: Weight down, technology up

  • ultra-light
  • simple, elegant look
  • good workmanship; but very loud primary keys

At first glance, the Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro looks similar to its predecessor. Both rodents measure 128 mm x 68 mm x 44 mm, have a hard plastic casing and offer an ergonomic layout that is aimed exclusively at right-handers.

But: Version V4 Pro has slimmed down once again. Razer has reduced the weight of the gaming mouse to 56 grams, while the previous model was slightly heavier at 63 grams. What sounds like a nuance should please competitive gamers in particular – after all, the DeathAdder is primarily aimed at professionals.

Just like its predecessor, the model also does without RGB lighting. Instead, there is only a status LED above the mouse wheel, which provides information about the battery status or the set DPI profile.

The Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro complements the two primary buttons with a pleasantly ribbed, very well graduated scroll wheel, as well as two generous additional buttons on the left side, which are easy to reach with the thumb.

One interesting new feature, however, concerns the wireless receiver. It is now (semi-)spherical and has three LEDs on the front, which provide information on the connection status, battery life and scanning rate in different colors. The enclosed USB cable is then connected to the PC or notebook at the back.

This is because the mouse uses the new Razer HyperSpeed Wireless Gen 2 technology, which is significantly faster than the first generation with a latency of just 0.291 ms. This allows the Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro to achieve a wireless sampling rate of 8,000 Hz without any additional accessories – esports pros rejoice.

While the workmanship leaves no room for criticism, I unfortunately don’t like the acoustics of the two primary keys at all. They are extremely loud and “hollow”, which unfortunately gives the rather expensive gaming mouse a somewhat cheap aftertaste. Even much cheaper competitors such as the SteelSeries Rival 3 Wireless Gen 2 (our test) sound better.

Features and battery life

  • 45,000 DPI
  • 8,000 Hz
  • Ingenious optical scroll wheel

Where the Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro can hardly hold a candle to any other gaming mouse is in its features. This starts with the sensor, which the manufacturer has noticeably improved for the new version.

The Focus Pro45K sensor used delivers an impressive resolution of 45,000 DPI at 900 IPS speed and 85 G acceleration. So if you like fast-paced gaming, you’ll get your money’s worth here. But even those who prefer a slower pace will be perfectly served here. After all, the resolution can be adjusted in 1 DPI steps and goes down to 100 DPI.

The lift-off distance can now be adjusted separately for lift-off and touchdown in 26 steps. A dynamic sensitivity can also be set, which adjusts the sampling rate depending on the speed of movement of the mouse using a fixed, adjustable curve.

The scroll wheel is a novelty, with Razer using an optical connection for the first time. Due to the lack of physical contacts compared to classic, mechanical scroll wheels, this ensures a significantly longer service life and also negates ghost scrolls and reverse inputs. Optical switches are also used for the two additional buttons.

Up to 150 hours running time

  • Up to 150 hours runtime
  • 22 hours of use at 8,000 Hz

The battery life of the Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro is at a good level. The rodent lasts a maximum of 150 hours if you set the sampling rate to 1,000 Hz. At a maximum of 8,000 Hz, this is noticeably reduced to 22 hours.

Both are more than the comparably equipped ASUS ROG Keris II Origin, which is pleasing and can also be attributed to the lack of RGB lighting. Charging is also quite fast.

Compared to its competitor, however, the V4 Pro does not have Bluetooth connectivity. It can only be connected to PCs and notebooks via radio or cable.

Sensor and practical test

  • incredibly fast and precise
  • Easy to trigger primary buttons
  • strong dynamic sensitivity

In terms of performance, the Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro is beyond reproach. The sensor is incredibly fast and precise – even on my preferred setting of “only” 3,600 DPI.

In combination with the low weight, the rodent can easily cope with all demands and games, but naturally feels most at home in fast-paced competitive shooters. The V4 Pro masters The Finals, CS 2 or Marvel Rivals flawlessly.

One positive aspect that quickly stands out is that the two primary buttons (which are designed for 100 million clicks) are now noticeably lighter – 12 percent lighter compared to the previous model, the manufacturer promises – and I really like that. In addition, the new Gen-4 switches now offer virtually no debounce delay, which negates accidental double triggers.

In combination with the lift-off distance, which can be adjusted in detail, and Razer’s Smart Tracking, this results in unparalleled precision, which should not only delight casual gamers, but also professionals in particular.

The Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro also copes wonderfully with all surfaces. Whether desk, paper, glass mousepad or even foil. No problem at all.

An absolute killer feature in my eyes, however, is the “dynamic sensitivity”: instead of using just one DPI setting, this function basically allows you to have two DPI settings active at the same time for different applications. For example, you might want to use a lower DPI when aiming, but a higher one when turning quickly. Dynamic sensitivity allows you to automatically switch from low to high sensitivity based on your hand speed and the selected mouse rotation.

App connection: Razer Synapse

Like all other settings, this feature can be adjusted within Razer Synpase. The powerful software allows a variety of settings in a tidy interface.

Macros and many other functions can be customized there – including the Smart Polling Rate Switcher and Hypershift. Specific profiles can also be created.

An interesting new feature called Razer Exchange is designed to optimize workflows with ready-made macros for various tasks – with and without AI support. Unlike the AI Prompt Master, which was introduced with the Razer Pro Click V2 and V2 Vertical, Razer Exchange allows you to download ready-made macros that automatically open websites and apps.

Some of these macros use popular language models such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot or Google Gemini to quickly rephrase, translate or summarize text. It is even possible to add delays between the opening of applications.

Simply download it, assign it to a button in the macro area of the app and Spotify, YouTube or an AI translation will open at the touch of a button.

Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro test: Conclusion

The Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro marks a genuine revolution. While its predecessor was already an excellent gaming mouse, the new edition is even better in every respect.

The performance in particular is beyond reproach. In my opinion, the sensor is currently unrivaled in terms of resolution, accuracy and stroke height. Added to this are a number of powerful additional functions such as dynamic sensitivity and a polling rate of 8,000 Hz.

The lack of Bluetooth connectivity and the fact that the rodent doesn’t offer RGB lighting doesn’t bother me. The only thing I don’t like is the hollow, loud sound of the primary keys. That should have been solved better. And the fact that left-handers are once again left out in the cold.
